Nevermore

Nevermore

by roy hayward

I walked where the water meets the land
A marshy path on the lake shore
Recollections mixed with reflections
For a home that is no more.

I sat on the rocks where the water had been
A place for ducks twist they soar
Memories missed with longing
For a home that is no more.

I paused on the stoop with roses flanked
A lonely wall with a door
Echos of voices and of bad choices
For a home that is no more.

I tread on the lawn now overgrown
A reminiscent musical score
The band of my youth celebrates
For a home that is no more.

I lift from the gate a faded name
A family once that I adore
Never again a welcome mat
For a home that is no more.
